Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have been handed a fresh fitness boost ahead of Friday’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Manchester City, who are currently training in Abu Dhabi as part of a warm-weather camp during the Premier League’s annual winter break, are set to return to action next week in the Emirates FA Cup.
The current FA Cup holders travel to north London to face Tottenham in the fourth round of the competition, with Guardiola’s side currently winless and goalless in five previous visits to the new Spurs stadium.
City also return to Premier League action later this month, welcoming Vincent Kompany’s Burnley to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 31st January, where the Sky Blues will look to once again close the gap on league leaders Liverpool.
The treble-winners haven’t played since a dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park, where Kevin De Bruyne marked his return to league action with a stunning performance from the bench.
Fellow Belgian Jeremy Doku returned to the starting side for the win on Tyneside, with the attacking duo’s return to full fitness providing a welcome boost to Guardiola ahead of a busy February fixture schedule.
Erling Haaland’s return date remains unknown after the 23-year-old suffered a fresh setback during his recovery from a foot injury, forcing the Norwegian striker to miss nine successive matches for the Blues.
Centre-back pair Manuel Akanji and John Stones were also ruled out of the win over Newcastle due to injury, however Manchester City have been handed another fitness boost, as the latter returned to first-team training.
The Manchester Evening News report that the Englishman has taken a major step towards a return to action, having been involved in the Blues’ latest training session in Abu Dhabi.
Stones has been absent since suffering an injury against Everton at Goodison Park, where the the 29-year-old was forced off after making a latch-ditch challenge in the penalty area during the first-half.
The defender has seen his campaign heavily disrupted by injury, making just 13 appearances to date.
