“I missed this you know…” — Kevin De Bruyne reacts to stunning Premier League return

| Last Updated:

Kevin De Bruyne revealed his delight for making his Premier League return after providing two goal contributions to see Manchester City down Newcastle United.

Manchester City took advantage of their game in hand on Premier League leaders Liverpool, coming from behind to beat Newcastle United at St. James’s Park thanks to a superb cameo from Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgian joined the fray with just over 20 minutes remaining, replacing Bernardo Silva, to step foot on the pitch in the Premier League for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury against Burnley all the way back in August.

But after surgery and long recovery process, De Bruyne appears to have come back in fine form, scoring and providing a late assists to see Manchester City turn around a one-goal deficit and snatch a win at the death through an Oscar Bobb goal.

Speaking after the match, De Bruyne delivered his verdict on his sensational return to action in the Premier League.

“I’m dead honestly,” the Belgian said. “It was crazy. I missed this you know. I had a big injury and I needed the time.

“I worked hard and to come in this stadium, it was more willpower than anything else, but it was crazy.”

“I’m not able to do that for 90 minutes for the moment but I can put in a shift for 20/25 minutes. It can’t be bad!”

Manchester City’s Premier League title aspirations should be given a major boost with the return of Kevin De Bruyne, particularly if he can become a super-sub in matches that Pep Guardiola’s side struggle in.

Up next however, the Etihad outfit will head Abu Dhabi for some warm weather training as they will have a nearly two-week wait until their next competitive match.

Upon their return, City will head to London to square off with Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fourth round as they look to defend their crown.
