Charlton Athletic are working to sign Manchester City midfielder Lewis Fiorini on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Sky Bet League One club are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window and are targeting loan additions from the Premier League, as Michael Appleton looks to guide Charlton to a top-half finish.

The Addicks are winless since November and are currently 14th in the league, having registered just seven victories in 24 matches so far this season.

Manchester City midfielder Lewis Fiorini worked under current Charlton manager Appleton at Blackpool last season, with the Scotland Under-21 international making 14 appearances and scoring one goal during a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old has remained at the City Football Academy so far this season after undergoing surgery in August, but is now looking to return to first-team football in 2024.

Fiorini has been subject to interest from a number of EFL clubs, however Charlton have emerged as favourites to secure the midfielder’s signature, with the south-east London club looking to bring the Scotsman to The Valley.

Journalist Richard Cawley reports that Charlton Athletic are working on a deal to sign Fiorini on loan this month, as the 21-year-old prepares to become the latest City Football Academy player to continue their development elsewhere.

Fiorini, who is contracted at the Etihad Stadium until 2026, has also spent time at NAC Breda and Lincoln City, but hasn’t made a first-team appearance for Manchester City.

The midfielder has made 39 previous League One appearances as well as 13 Championship appearances, scoring seven goals and registering six assists.
