Brazil “interest” in Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, claims Ronaldo
Brazilian legend Ronaldo has claimed that the Brazil national team were interested in hiring Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The Catalan, who has been at the Etihad Stadium since 2016, signed a new two-year contract extension with Manchester City last month.
Guardiola has guided the Sky Blues to 11 trophies including four Premier League titles, with City bidding to win the league for a third successive season this campaign.
The 51 year-olds future beyond the season had been subject to speculation prior to Guardiola signing a new deal until 2025 in November.
The two-year deal will see Guardiola spend nine years at the Etihad Stadium, having previously managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Speaking upon signing a new contract last month, Guardiola said: “I am so pleased to be staying at Manchester City for another two years.
“I can’t say thank you enough to everyone at the club for trusting me. I am happy and comfortable here. I have everything I need to do my job as best as possible.”
Guardiola has previously revealed his desire to potentially manage at an international level in the future, and according to footballing legend Ronaldo Nazario, Brazil had made an approach for the Catalan.
“There was interest in Guardiola,” claimed Ronaldo.
“It was discussed with Guardiola’s coaching staff, but he preferred to renew with Man City. It might be difficult for the CBF to reach an agreement, he is the highest-paid coach…”
The Brazil national team are currently searching for a new manager following the departure of Tite.
Tite resigned after eight years as Brazil boss following the nations FIFA World Cup quarter-final exit.
