Brazilian midfielder sends plea to Pep Guardiola over Manchester City transfer – Fernandinho involved

| Last Updated:

Fluminense’s highly-rated midfield talent Andre has reportedly made contact with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola over a potential move to the Etihad Stadium.

The concerned parties came to head-to-head in a recent clash at the FIFA Club World Cup, competing at the final stage of the tournament that saw Manchester City emerge as comfortable winners on the night.

Nevertheless, Andre’s appearance in Saudi Arabia capped off a sensational rise in the game, and put him even further into the limelight for several clubs in European football to eye his signature and services in the coming months.

One of those clubs is understood to be Manchester City themselves, who are continuously eyeing a move for a more solid back-up option in the defensive midfield role alongside Rodri, with Kalvin Phillips expected to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Now, according to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’, it is claimed that Fluminense’s Andre has ‘personally asked’ Pep Guardiola to sign him during the ongoing January transfer window.

It is further revealed that there has been ‘a whisper’ over former Manchester City defensive midfield great Fernandinho having given Andre a glowing reference, with the former retaining a strong relationship with the reigning UEFA Champions League winners since his exit.

Fernandinho made a return to the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks with the player remaining in high-regard by both existing players and club officials following his illustrious stay in Sky Blue.

With regards to Kalvin Phillips, the England international is commanding widespread interest from both in Europe and in the Premier League, with Newcastle United and Juventus understood to be leading the pack.

Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham are also understood to be holding an interest in the out-of-favour midfielder, who is desperate for improved game time across the course of the coming months to secure his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championships.
