Manchester City outline long-term plans for breakthrough academy star Micah Hamilton
Premier League champions Manchester City have seemingly outlined their longer-term intentions concerning breakthrough academy star Micah Hamilton.
The 2003-born forward was thrown into the limelight in recent weeks having been brought into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad on a more regular basis as a direct result of ongoing injury problems in the Catalan manager’s relatively small group.
A debut appearance for the senior team came in the UEFA Champions League on matchday six of the group phase of the competition, with Hamilton starting on the right of a front-three against Serbian side Red Star Belgrade.
On a night to remember for the 20-year-old, Micah Hamilton also scored his first goal for the senior squad alongside first strikes for fellow academy graduate Oscar Bobb and defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The rise of Micah Hamilton at Manchester City has now led to the club reviewing his contractual status at the Etihad Stadium, with a recent report pointing towards a potential contract renewal in the coming weeks.
According to a recent report from TEAMTALK, Manchester City officials and coaching staff have been ‘sufficiently impressed’ by the progress made by Micah Hamilton to tie him down to a longer-term deal, with his current agreement due to expire in the summer.
It remains to be seen how much more involvement Micah Hamilton could have with Manchester City during the second-half of the season, however the new Emirates FA Cup campaign may offer some rare opportunities for fringe players.
Huddersfield Town are the visitors in the third round of the competition this weekend, with the Championship club hoping to end Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the FA Cup for the first time under Pep Guardiola.
A loan move for Hamilton may also be a possibility, however there are no concrete suggestions in mainstream media to suggest that a departure from the City Football Academy on a temporary basis is being considered at this moment in time.
