“They are one of the biggest threats” – Sergio Aguero makes shock Premier League title race claim
Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero believes that Manchester United are the Blues’ biggest threat to the Premier League title.
Pep Guardiola’s side are currently bidding to win a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title, with Manchester City having lifted the trophy for the fifth time in six years last season.
The Sky Blues, who also won the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in 2023, remain in the race to win the title despite winning just two of their previous seven league matches.
Manchester City could move level on points with Arsenal and within two points of league leaders Liverpool with a victory over Sheffield United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The treble-winners return to the Etihad for the first time since being crowned World Champions, and are searching for their first home win in the Premier League since early November, after successive home draws to Liverpool, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.
Manchester City have dropped points on seven occasions already this season, and are embattled in the Premier League title race with potentially four other teams – Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Spurs.
Guardiola’s side have failed to beat all four during the first-half of the campaign, and despite sitting in fourth in the Premier League table, former striker Sergio Aguero believes neither of the four teams are the Blues’ biggest title threat.
The 35-year-old has claimed that local rivals Manchester United are City’s biggest title threat, while also believing that both Newcastle and Tottenham could pose a problem.
“You can never sleep on Man United at this stage of the season,” said Aguero.
“They are one of the biggest threats to Man City’s Premier League title. I also think Tottenham are title contenders, who have improved a lot under Ange Postecoglou.
“Even despite their ups and downs, Newcastle are also in with a chance of the title as they always put up a fight.”
Manchester United are currently sat in 7th in the Premier League table with 10 wins this season, meanwhile Newcastle have dropped to 9th and are eight points off the top four places.
