Former Manchester City player Ferran Torres has revealed the stunning discussion he had with Pep Guardiola before leaving the club.

Torres was only just starting to make a name for himself in the Manchester City shirt when he completed a shock move to LaLiga giants Barcelona. The Camp Nou side paid a reported €55 million for the forward.

The former Valencia man had started the 2021/22 campaign in fine form with City, filling the centre-forward void left by departing club legend Sergio Aguero. Torres had racked up four goal contributions in five games before making late-summer move to Barcelona.

But speaking in a recent interview in Spain, translated by Sports Witness, Torres revealed why Pep Guardiola would not stand in his way when Barcelona came calling.

“It was very difficult. I was 19 years old, I was alone (in Manchester), without my family, with Covid, with a different language.

“When I arrived, I had to quarantine for 15 days. I couldn’t leave the house. It was very difficult,” Torres explained.

“When I told him [Pep Guardiola] that Barca wanted me, he told me that he couldn’t say no. It’s my team, he told me, my Barca. As long as the teams agree, you can leave. Barca is Barca.”

Manchester City’s willingness to business with Barcelona has long been a topic of discussion surrounding the two clubs.

Though Pep Guardiola is not the only former Barcelona man in the upper reaches of the Etihad Club. Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain and CEO Ferran Soriano are also former executives at the Camp Nou.
