Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup semi-final opponents confirmed after second round result

| Last Updated:

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have now discovered their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final opponents, after the completion of the second round fixture between Club Leon and Urawa Reds.

Manchester City will travel to Saudi Arabia to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup next week, with Pep Guardiola’s side involved in the tournament for the first time in the club’s history, after the Sky Blues won the UEFA Champions League in June.

The treble-winners will enter the competition at the semi-final stages, playing their first fixture on Tuesday, after Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium.

The FIFA Club World Cup sees winners of the UEFA Champions League, Oceania Champions League, Asian Champions League, CONCACAF Champions League, African Champions League, Copa Libertadores, and Saudi Arabian National League all compete against one another.

Manchester City will be involved in the semi-finals on Tuesday 19th December at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, before competing in either the Third-Place Play-Off or Club World Cup Final on Friday 22nd December.

The Blues’ Premier League clash against Brentford has been postponed as a result of participation at the Club World Cup, with the tournament having started on Tuesday, with a first round fixture between Al-Ittihad and Auckland City.

Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahly or Fluminense are all potential opponents for Manchester City, with the three teams on the opposite side of the draw.

Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup semi-final opponent was confirmed on Friday afternoon, after Club Leon faced Urawa Reds in the second round.

Pep Guardiola’s side will face Urawa Red Diamonds in Jeddah on Tuesday evening (UK time), after the Japanese club beat Club Leon courtesy of a 0-1 scoreline on Friday afternoon.
