Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has looked ahead to Tuesday evening’s FIFA Club World Cup clash against Urawa Red Diamonds at King Abdullah Sports City.

Pep Guardiola’s side have travelled to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah for two matches in their debut appearance at the Club World Cup, hoping to claim the title for the very first time in the club’s history following on from successes in the UEFA Champions League and Super Cup.

Successive victories against Luton Town and Crvena zvezda away from home in the Premier League and Champions League respectively was followed by a hugely disappointing outing last time out as Manchester City threw away a two-goal lead at home to Crystal Palace.

Goals from Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis either side of half-time put Manchester City into a controlled 2-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining, only for Jean-Philippe Mateta and Michael Olise to draw the scoreline level in the closing stages.

City will be hoping to put that result behind them and defeat Japanese giants Urawa Red Diamonds in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup, and book a place in the showpiece final on Friday evening against either Fluminense or Al Ahly.

The absence of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne was among the topics of conversation at the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash, with Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva addressing the media at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

Here is every word from Manchester City’s Portuguese star on Monday afternoon!

On the short turnaround

“There is no time to feel tired.”

On the FIFA Club World Cup

“We are motivated to come here and play this competition. Almost all of us never won – and as a club we never won – and we want to do it. First we have to play Urawa Red Diamonds and we will prepare well to do it.”

On the absence of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne

“(Erling) Haaland is very important to us, him and Kevin (De Bruyne)… He is not there but just because he is not there does not mean that it does not matter. Of course, he will be missed.”

“Erling is a big player for us, we can’t deny that. But the big strength at City in my time here is no matter who is missing, we are the same team and we fight for all the titles. We will do that, of course if Erling Haaland is not here we will miss him but we have Julian Alvarez and he is a top striker.”

“We play with the players we have in the month. We miss all our injured players.”

On whether Manchester City still have the ability to put together a long winning run

“Do you doubt us?”

On Fluminense

“I saw the final of the Libertadores… There is a special connection with Brazilian and Portuguese football. I would definitely like to compete in the final with Fluminense because of how special Brazilian football is.”
