Pep Guardiola reveals timeframe on Jeremy Doku return from injury

| Last Updated:

Manchester City could be without Jeremy Doku for up to another two weeks, Pep Guardiola has revealed while addressing the media after the victory at Luton.

City returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon after coming from behind to defeat Rob Edwards’ side 1-2 at Kenilworth Road, courtesy of goals from Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish in the second-half of the clash.

The Premier League champions were once again without Jeremy Doku, after his blistering start to life at the Etihad Stadium was cut short by an injury sustained in the first-half of the enthralling 3-3 draw with Tottenham earlier this month.

As such, the absence of the Belgian international presented an opportunity for Jack Grealish to impress and deliver a contribution in front of goal. Speaking after the contest however, Pep Guardiola delivered an update on the fitness of his 21-year-old attacking spark.

As per The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Pep Guardiola told journalists, “It’s muscular,” on the subject of Jeremy Doku. “It’s not a big, big issue like Kevin (De Bruyne), but we have to think about his explosivity and be careful. Maybe (in) one week, two weeks he’ll be ready again.”

Should Jeremy Doku return to action within one week, he could put himself in contention for Manchester City’s final Premier League match before the FIFA Club World Cup, as they host Crystal Palace in the top-flight next weekend.

Two weeks would mean that Jeremy Doku would be in late contention for Manchester City’s exploits in Saudi Arabia, as they embark on two matches in the world-renowned club competition, with a semi-final clash against either Urawa Red Diamonds or Club Leon.

Following victory over Luton on Sunday afternoon, Manchester City now find themselves in fourth position in the Premier League, and just three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur – who lie in fifth ahead of Manchester United.
