Premier League champions Manchester City are targeting a sensational raid on River Plate for three of their finest up and coming talents, according to a report.

The latest round of interest from Etihad Stadium officials represents a continued focus on South American talent, following huge success from Manchester City in signing and developing emerging talents from the continent.

Pep Guardiola has worked closely with the likes of Julian Alvarez and Gabriel Jesus over recent seasons, both of whom were signed directly from South America, while the likes of Yan Couto are excelling in loan deals within the City Football Group.

Building on from their successful negotiation with River Plate for Julian Alvarez in 2022, Manchester City are now likely to return to the Argentine giants to look into the possibility of a triple raid on their latest group of prized assets.

That is according to the information of 90min, who report that Manchester City – alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea – are showing strong interest in River Plate’s rising trio Claudio Echeverri, Agustin Ruberto and Ian Subiabre.

It is detailed that with regards to Echeverri and Ruberto, both players turn 18-year-old in January 2024 and therefore will be able to move overseas, with both Argentina youth talents under contract until the end of 2024.

Manchester City, according to 90min, are confident of signing all three players thanks to an excellent relationship with River Plate stemming from their successful chase of Julian Alvarez in 2022.

The Premier League champions are also reportedly open to deals which would see both Claudio Echeverri and Agustin Ruberto remaining in Argentina until a later date – a similar deal to that of Julian Alvarez.

Given their fine performances with Argentina at the recent FIFA under-17 World Cup, Manchester City and Chelsea are unsurprisingly joined by a whole host of other clubs in showing interest in the trio.

90min reveal that Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have all ‘engaged in talks’, as well as Barcelona and Real Madrid. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter complete a European frenzy.

City’s interest in rising South American names does not stop with the reported trio from River Plate, with the general feeling in various quarters being that they will soon finalise an agreement with Boca Juniors for Valentin Barco.

The Argentine left-back is one of the most exciting names to emerge from Argentina in recent years, and despite being just 19-years-old, is the starting name for one of the country’s most prestigious clubs.

Manchester City’s plans for the player remain somewhat unknown, however there is the possibility that the player could be loaned out within the English game upon his arrival in Europe in the coming weeks and months.
