Rodri has compared Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad to the United Nations during a new interview with Spanish media this week.

The current crop of City talent have experienced the ultimate highs of professional football over the last three seasons in particular, claiming successive Premier League titles and winning a historic Treble last season.

A Premier League title win by beating Arsenal to the prize was followed by a Wembley final success over bitter rivals Manchester United, before a 1-0 win in Istanbul in the Champions League final courtesy of Rodri won the club’s first ever title in the competition.

The goalscorer at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium has now been hugely complimentary of the balance in the Manchester City squad, and the unbreakable bond between the characters within Pep Guardiola’s team.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness this week, Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League final goalscorer Rodri has compared the first-team squad to the UN with their diversity and respect for one another.

“I always say that we are like the UN,” the Spain international admitted. “There are players of a lot of nationalities in the squad, each one with his language, his culture or his religion, but we all understand and respect each other.”

He continued, “There are no groups, no margins, no isolated people. It seems to me to be an important part of our success.”

AS in turn offered a glowing report on Manchester City’s defensive midfield mainstay, revealing that there is not one word spoken badly about the former Atletico Madrid star within the Etihad Stadium.

The newspaper states, “There is no one in the club who speaks badly of him. He is a captain with capital letters. He greets all employees kindly.

“He gently tells them to stop making noise for a few minutes when he must make a video recording. He mixes with fans who tour the stadium without the slightest attempt to avoid them.”

Rodri’s Manchester City teammates will look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Wednesday night without his contributions, as they travel to face Aston Villa at Villa Park off the back of three successive draws in the competition.

Rodri and Jack Grealish will be serving a one-match suspension following an accumulation of yellow cards in the Premier League this season, after respective cautions against Tottenham brought their tally to five for the campaign.
