Early team news: Manchester City starting line-up leaked ahead of Tottenham clash
Manchester City’s starting line-up has been revealed ahead of official confirmation prior to the showdown with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
The reigning Premier League champions will be looking to get back to winning ways in the English top-flight having recorded draws in their previous two fixtures in the division against Chelsea and Liverpool.
It was an enthralling 4-4 draw away from home against Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Stamford Bridge that preceded the final international break of 2023, before a return to the Etihad Stadium post-break would see Pep Guardiola’s side held to a 1-1 scoreline by Liverpool.
Manchester City did however close off their UEFA Champions League group stage in dramatic fashion in midweek, having come back from 0-2 behind at the half-time interval against RB Leipzig to win 3-2 at the Etihad.
Erling Haaland opened City’s account on Tuesday night, before inspired substitutions from Pep Guardiola saw Phil Foden bring the game level, opening up opportunities to win the game, of which Julian Alvarez took full advantage.
Manchester City will be looking to move back to within one point of Premier League title rivals Arsenal after their 2-1 victory over Wolves on Saturday afternoon, as they welcome Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham to the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
Ahead of the confirmed line-ups from the home of the Treble winners, sources across social media have began releasing information around Pep Guardiola’s selection, with the full line-up revealed by X user FPLMaineRoad.
Ederson returns between the sticks after Stefan Ortega Moreno was chosen in goal against RB Leipzig in midweek.
A back-four consisting of Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, and Josko Gvardiol will defend the Brazilian international’s goal.
In front of the defensive line, Rodri holds the defensive midfield role, while Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez take up the more advanced midfield positions. An attacking trio of Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Jeremy Doku have reportedly been selected.
Pep Guardiola and Ange Postecoglou are expected to confirm their respective starting line-ups from 15:30 (UK) on Sunday afternoon.
Now confirmed.
