Inside the Manchester City party that saw Jack Grealish ‘downing pints at 9am’

Comedian and personality Jack Whitehall has taken Manchester City fans inside the Treble-winning party that ensued following their Champions League win last season.

Pep Guardiola and his players made history in the 2022/23 campaign, by not only winning the Premier League for a third successive season, but also claiming their first ever UEFA Champions League crown after an FA Cup success.

Manchester City became just the second team ever in English football history to win the Treble, after bitter city rivals Manchester United and their own successful pursuit of the three honours in 1999.

Understandably and perhaps expectedly, the historic campaign sparked wild celebrations among both Manchester City as an organisation, and the first-team squad, with parties ensuing immediately after the final whistle at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

Speaking on Russell Howard’s ‘Wonderbox’ podcast, fellow comedian Jack Whitehall revealed the crazy details of Manchester City’s party in Ibiza that followed the club’s success in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul.

“We had this amazing moment where we were all doing shots on the dancefloor,” Whitehall revealed, who was in attendance at the party. “The best thing about it was you saw Erling Haaland, who had one drink. He was careful sipping all evening and was totally composed.”

The comedian continued, “You had Rodri, and Ruben Dias, screening their VIP area like they do on the pitch. It definitely felt like they’d applied some tactics to how they were going to keep themselves safe in the club.

“And then you had (Jack) Grealish just loose as a goose in the middle of all it. He was still going three days later, it’s so commendable.”

Continuing on the subject of Jack Grealish, Whitehall revealed that the Manchester City and England international forward was ‘downing pints’ and ‘singing songs’ until 9am the following morning in an ability likened to Wayne Lineker.

“I had to go and lock myself in a room and sleep for two days. I was not right for a week,” he admitted. “Jack Grealish was in Manchester downing pints and singing songs at 9am the following morning. He has the talent of Gary Lineker on the pitch and Wayne Lineker off it.”

Manchester City and their entire squad will be hoping for similar celebrations at the end of this season, and remain on track for a repeat of their treble, despite there being many months of the campaign still to go.
