Pep Guardiola drops team news hint for Man City against RB Leipzig with player who can ‘play in five positions’ set to start

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has dropped a significant team news hint ahead of the UEFA Champions League showdown with RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.

The current second-placed team in the Premier League will also be hoping to bounce back from their successive draws in the English top-flight, after a 4-4 draw with Chelsea prior to the international break was followed up by a 1-1 meeting with Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester City come into Tuesday night’s clash high on confidence in the Champions League however, having won all four of their group stages contests – three of which ended in a 3-1 scoreline, and their most recent victory over BSC Young Boys ending 3-0.

While City are most likely set to start with a strong line-up against the Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig this week, Pep Guardiola has this week offered a hint towards one element of rotation either in the centre of the park, or in his defensive line depending on the tactical set-up.

Speaking during a recent press conference, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola revealed that one name who is set to start for the reigning European champions on Tuesday night is Rico Lewis, who will have a chance to build on his recent exemplary performances.

“Rico (Lewis) is ready, Rico can play in five positions, so we’re going to use him I’m pretty sure on Tuesday,” Guardiola revealed. “It is what it is! I don’t complain (about Manchester City’s fitness situation)! Incredible these guys, you see this team, what can I say? Everyone is really pleased.”

Pep Guardiola has also stressed that Tuesday night’s meeting is another important game, with the Champions League winners of last season having the chance to ensure their place in top spot with a victory.

“We have to win or draw,” Guardiola said ahead of the game. “The first step is done for both sides, congratulations Leipzig. Important to finish first, prestigious and second leg of last 16 at home. Not decisive, but a little advantage.”

Manchester City will follow-up their meeting with Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium by once again returning to their home ground on the weekend, as they play host to Tottenham Hotspur in a mammoth Premier League tie on Sunday afternoon.
