The City Football Group are plotting an extended stay in La Liga for highly-rated forward talent Savinho, or Savio, during the 2023/24 campaign, according to a report.

The Brazilian teenager has sparked into life during his second loan spell since first joining the City Football Group project in the summer of 2022, by attributing himself to Ligue 1 outfit ESTAC Troyes in France.

Savio’s first spells away from Troyes saw him ply his trade in Dutch football, making appearances for both PSV’s senior team as well as their youth side, before returning to France for relocation elsewhere in the Group.

The 2023/24 campaign has seen Savinho repositioned at Girona where the ongoing season has seen the player excel, and as such become linked with even greater moves elsewhere in Europe, including to the likes of reigning Spanish champions FC Barcelona.

However, a new report has detailed Manchester City and the City Football Group’s more immediate plans for the player, indicating a trajectory that could ultimately lead to the winger starring under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the information of Spanish newspaper Sport, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City have ‘no intention of losing control’ over Brazilian attacker Savio, who is labelled as having ‘exploded’ while on-loan at Girona so far this season.

As things stand, according to the report, the City Football Group’s idea is to allow the 19-year-old to extend his stay at the La Liga club into next season, and especially if they were to qualify for European competition as they look on track for Champions League football.

Sport speculates that should Savio continue to impress while with Girona, then the forward could end up at Manchester City in the future – a destination that he has openly stated is a long-term ambition of his.

Across Savio’s 13 La Liga appearances so far this season, the player has provided a commendable four goals and four assists to inspire his teammates and the club to top spot in La Liga ahead of the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

It remains to be seen just how long Girona can maintain their outstanding form in the Spanish top-flight, however some fans and pundits are anticipating a serious title charge from a young side implementing the style of their sister club Manchester City.
