Breakout Manchester City Rico Lewis has revealed which teammate has helped him most in his early days as a professional.

The Englishman has evolved into a sensation at Manchester City in the past year, becoming an influential member of Pep Guardiola’s treble winning side as a teenager. But it hasn’t been without help.

After graduating from the City academy setup, Lewis joined a first team squad full to the brim with season veterans, most of whom have spent the better part of their careers collecting trophy after trophy at the Etihad.

And as a fully fledged member of the senior team, Lewis opened up on which of those leaders helped him most with his integration into one of the great Premier League sides of the modern era.

“Kyle Walker,” Lewis said. “When I came in I was always playing full-back. He was always giving pointers here and there.”

Walker was recently voted club captain after the departure of former skipper Ilkay Gundogan, who left for FC Barcelona int he summer.

“I don’t need too much,” Lewis continued. “But it was just little things. He’s one of the best full-backs to ever play in the Premier League.

“He’s always been a captain with or without the captain. He’s taken more on his shoulders this year. He’s got so much passion, he fits the role.

“It’s a no-brainer he was going to be captain – him or Kevin (De Bruyne). But I think most players in the team have that leadership anyone could captain.”

Lewis has already made 10 appearances for Manchester City, most notably making starts in games against Arsenal in the Premier League and RB Leipzig in the Champions League respectively.

While he is clearly a supreme young talent, Lewis will most certainly benefit from the influence the Manchester City veterans will have on him; just like fellow academy graduates Phil Foden and Cole Palmer before him.
