Kalvin Phillips’ agents hold secret meeting with European giants in London as list of potential suitors grow

The agents of Manchester City defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips have reportedly held talks with representatives from Juventus in London on Monday.
The England international is on the search for improved game time ahead of the 2024 European Championships, following Gareth Southgate and England’s qualification for the tournament last month.
Kalvin Phillips is currently enduring an ongoing struggle to embed himself into Pep Guardiola’s plans, and while often playing second fiddle to mainstay defensive midfielder Rodri, is rarely afforded opportunities in rotated line-ups.
As such, the upcoming January transfer window could present the ideal opportunity for Kalvin Phillips to move away on either a temporary agreement or a permanent deal, depending on the proposals put to Manchester City and the player.
The latest round of reports surrounding the 27-year-old links him with interest from Italy’s premier division of club football, as well as a number of clubs in the Premier League, and some particular known to be direct rivals of Manchester City.
According to the information of MailSport’s Alvise Cagnazzo, Kalvin Phillips has been requested by Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri as the club’s number one transfer target, and is also highly regarded by sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.
It is claimed that admiration and interest from within the Serie A giants comes with a view towards possibly bringing Pep Guardiola’s player to Italy during the upcoming January 2024 transfer market.
That claim has been backed up by CalcioMercato.it, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, who state that a meeting was held about a transfer on Monday between Juventus director Giovanni Manna and the agents of Kalvin Phillips in London.
In a similar line to that of MailSport earlier in the week, Italian reports state that Kalvin Phillips is a top target for the Old Lady in January, and the Serie A side are currently working on the formula to take him from England.
While Juventus may appear to be the most serious suitor to emerge to date for Phillips, reports from England are not ruling out the possibility of a move closer to home with a number of Premier League clubs reportedly continuing to show interest in the former Leeds United man.
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Kalvin Phillips is on the January shortlist of a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Newcastle, while Fulham are also eyeing the midfielder.
Elsewhere, and despite Tottenham Hotspur chiefs monitoring his situation, Kalvin Phillips is unlikely to hold down a regular place in Ange Postecoglou’s midfield and as such may turn down the opportunity of a move to North London.
So far this season, Kalvin Phillips has only managed to register eight appearances across all competitions, in a campaign that some expected to be his breakthrough season under Pep Guardiola.
In his eight appearances – spanning across the Premier League, Champions League, and EFL Cup, Phillips has taken on just 215 minutes of match action picking up one yellow card in the process.
