Inside the Manchester United dressing room after Manchester City ‘humbling’ including Erik ten Hag’s brutal sit and listen approach

Manchester United’s players were made to sit and listen to Manchester City’s celebrations on Sunday evening after their 0-3 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side.
The reigning champions of Europe cruised to a third successive victory following the most recent international break at the weekend, thanks to a brace from the inevitable Erling Haaland and a strike from Stockport-born City fan Phil Foden.
Victory at Old Trafford moved Manchester City back to within just two points of league leaders Tottenham Hotspur, and saw Manchester United equalled in the goalscoring charts this season by the aforementioned Norwegian striker alone.
If the contest itself was not embarrassing enough for the Manchester United players on show on Sunday, Erik ten Hag certainly made sure to embarrass them further, with a new report detailing the brutal nature of his post-match debrief.
The report highlights the immediate instructions within their Old Trafford home dressing room, as well as their punishments that have and will follow in the days after the crushing defeat to their Manchester rivals.
That information comes courtesy of The Sun’s Neil Custis, who reports that Erik ten Hag ordered his Manchester United players to sit and listen to Manchester City’s celebrations on the other side of the Old Trafford tunnel upon returning to their respective dressing rooms.
It is claimed that the Manchester United boss also wanted his embarrassed squad to hear the away fans of Manchester City hailing their Treble winners after an outstanding performance on Sunday afternoon, before the Dutchman ‘tore into’ his team.
In further details revealed by the report, it is stated that Ten Hag had planned to give his players a bonus day off on Monday if they had beaten City. While that was obviously cancelled, the squad were instead reportedly hauled in for a further post-mortem into how they were ‘humbled’ by the Premier League champions.
The brutal review of the game does not stop there however, with The Sun going on to report that United players have now been told there will also be extra ‘homework’ with personalised videos showing where they went wrong against Manchester City.
Manchester United’s fixtures in the immediate games that will follow their derby day humbling by City do not get any easier, with Erik ten Hag’s players coming up against Newcastle United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
The cup clash will then be followed by the challenge of an away trip to London, where they will face Fulham at Craven Cottage, before jetting off to Denmark for a Champions League meeting with FC Copenhagen.
As for Manchester City, they host Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon in their next fixture, having been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle in the third round, with the meeting with the Cherries preceding challenging top-flight meetings with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
