Manchester City continue to be linked with a potential move for Bayern Munich superstar Jamal Musiala.

The 20-year-old, who was recently reportedly identified as Kevin De Bruyne’s successor at the Etihad Stadium, was directly involved in 32 goals in 47 appearances for Bayern Munich last season.

Musiala scored twice for Thomas Tuchel’s side during an 8-0 thrashing of Darmstadt at the Allianz Arena on Saturday in the Bundesliga, amid growing speculation surrounding the long-term future of the German international in Bavaria.

The versatile attacking midfielder has played less than 400 minutes in the Bundesliga since the start of the new campaign – making six appearances but scoring two goals and registering two assists.

Musiala changed international allegiance as a teenager, choosing to represent Germany at a first-team level despite featuring for England’s youth teams.

The 20-year-old is now being linked with a potential return to England for domestic football, with Manchester City and Liverpool both interested in signing the Bayern Munich superstar.

Journalist Maximilian Koch reports that Pep Guardiola considers Musiala as the ‘best’ number 10 in the world in the next two years and has identified the midfielder as the successor to Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola is claimed to ‘want’ to bring the German international to the Etihad Stadium, with Manchester City expected to be in the transfer market next summer for a new midfielder.

Sport Witness relay a report from BILD, who describe the Manchester City manager as a ‘big fan’ of Musiala and the emerging situation as ‘dangerous’ for Bayern Munich.

Musiala is contracted at the Allianz Arena until 2026, but the Blues are claimed to be readying an ‘extremely attractive offer’, and are ‘keen’ to push for the signature of the 20-year-old in the coming months.

Furthermore, the midfielder is reported to currently be unlikely to entertain contract extension offers from Bayern Munich, with the player currently frustrated by a lack of regular minutes under Tuchel.

Musiala featured in both legs of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie between Manchester City and Bayern Munich last season, with Guardiola’s side thrashing the Bundesliga club 4-1 on aggregate.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could pose a major threat to any Manchester City pursuit for the midfielder, amid reported rivalled interest from the Merseyside club.
