Manchester City considering sensational transfer swoop for Bayern Munich and Germany star

| Last Updated:

Manchester City are exploring a potential transfer move for Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala.

Pep Guardiola’s side are set to return to the transfer market for a new midfielder next summer, after missing out on signing both Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice during the recent window, despite the departure of former captain Ilkay Gundogan.

Gundogan’s surprise exit and Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term hamstring injury forced Manchester City to complete a Deadline Day deal for Matheus Nunes, who moved to the Etihad Stadium from Wolves for £53 million.

Manchester City are widely expected to seek the signing of another new attacking midfielder, with West Ham star Lucas Paqueta a potential option to the Blues, should an FA and FIFA investigation into the Brazilian find no wrongdoing.

Bernardo Silva’s mooted £50 million release clause could also prove problematic for Manchester City in 2024, with a trio of Bundesliga midfielder’s linked with a potential move to the Etihad Stadium next summer.

Florian Wirtz and Dani Olmo have both previously been reported transfer targets, meanwhile Football Insider claim that Bayern Munich and Germany star Jamal Musiala is a new name on the Blues’ recruitment list.

The 20-year-old, who was directly involved in 32 goals last season, has featured in just five Bundesliga matches for Bayern Munich during the new campaign.

Musiala has scored just one goal so far this season, and is reportedly frustrated by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to prefer veteran midfielder Thomas Muller.

The German international is contracted at the Allianz Arena until 2026, however Manchester City are exploring a potential deal for the 20-year-old, according to Football Insider.

The treble-winners could however face competition from a Premier League rival for the midfielder’s signature, as Liverpool are also claimed to be interested in signing Musiala next summer.

Musiala was recently reported to have been identified as a potential long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City, with the 32-year-old out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in 2025.
