Erling Haaland release clause update as Man City development leaves Real Madrid and Barcelona watching
Manchester City are set to pursue an improved contract for Erling Haaland in the coming months, as new reports detail the latest on a potential release clause.
The Norway international has made a blistering start to life in England since joining Pep Guardiola’s ongoing project from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, winning a treble of major honours in his first campaign at the club.
Haaland’s staggering goalscoring exploits across all competitions last campaign put Manchester City on the road to claiming yet another Premier League title, accompanied by an FA Cup final win over Manchester United, and their first ever UEFA Champions League success.
Now, Manchester City have intentions to tie Erling Haaland down to an extended contract while also rewarding the 23-year-old financially for his exemplary output for the treble winners with an increased salary package.
However as part of discussions to retain Haaland at the club for a longer period of time contractually, additional reporting has suggested that the prospect of a release clause could be raised at the table between relevant parties.
That is according to a report from Jack Gaughan of MailSport, who states that it is ‘likely’ that a potential release clause will be discussed as Manchester City seek an agreement with Erling Haaland and his entourage over a new and improved contract at the Etihad Stadium.
It is further detailed that two release clauses had been initially added into Haaland’s first contract at Manchester City – one of which was dependant on Pep Guardiola’s future before the Catalan coach signed a new deal with the club in November 2022.
Any prospect of a release clause is likely to leave La Liga giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid watching intently, as the two clubs hold Erling Haaland in the highest regard and retain hope in one day seeing the Norwegian at their respective clubs.
For now however, there is no feeling of wanting to move on from the part of Erling Haaland, who is understood to be hugely happy with both his lifestyle in Manchester and commitments to the reigning Premier League champions on and off the pitch.
The former RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund man has integrated himself into the city lifestyle, often having been spotted dining out at some of the regions best restaurants, and owning an exclusive apartment in the heart of the city centre itself to aid with integration.
