Manchester City Women smash ticket sales record ahead of new WSL season

| Last Updated:

Manchester City Women are set to smash two ticketing records during the new WSL season, as the women’s game continues to rapidly grow in England.

Gareth Taylor’s side begin their latest WSL campaign next month, travelling to West Ham Women on Sunday 1st October, prior to welcoming title-holders Chelsea to the newly-named Joie Stadium for the first home match of the season, one week later.

Manchester City Women finished fourth last season, level on points with Arsenal, but nine points adrift of WSL champions Chelsea.

The success of England at this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup has further accelerated the growth of the game in the country, and has lead to another record-breaking increase in ticket sales for WSL matches ahead of the new season.

Manchester City have sold out all season tickets for Women’s matches this season according to journalist Mike Keegan, who further reveals that the new sales are a massive 22% increase on last year.

The club have also reportedly seen an increase in demand for individual matches, and are expecting to break the 44,000 attendance record set by the team when they played Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium last season.

Season tickets sold out within a week of going on sale, and the first Manchester Derby of the season is expected to take place on Sunday 19th November.

Manchester City Women also recently announced Joie as a new Official Stadium Naming Partner in a historic multi-year deal, becoming the first Women’s Super League stadium to secure a commercial agreement for naming rights.

The club announced the deal with the household baby brand earlier this month, with the 7,000 seater stadium home to the Manchester City Women’s team and host of Elite Development Squad and youth fixtures.
