Early team news: Two ‘B List’ squad selections as Academy stars miss out ahead of Manchester City vs Red Star Belgrade (UEFA Champions League Group Stage)
Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb are the only two names selected from Manchester City’s Champions League squad ‘B List’ ahead of their group stage clash with Crvena zvezda on Tuesday night, it has been confirmed ahead of kick-off at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City embark on their first defence of a Champions League title against the Serbian outfit, as Pep Guardiola and his players take on six games against Zvezda, RB Leipzig of Germany, and BSC Young Boys.
Last time out it was a clash in the Premier League that saw City maintain their 100 per cent winning start to the season, defeating West Ham United at the London Stadium courtesy of a 1-3 scoreline and coming back from behind.
James Ward-Prowse had put David Moyes’ side ahead by the half-time break with a diving header, before a Jeremy Doku-inspired comeback goal was complimented by efforts from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland.
Now, ahead of the release of the confirmed and official starting line-ups at the Etihad Stadium, a number of sources have began releasing snippets of Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up and matchday squad, as the Catalan boss looks to get the Euro campaign off to a winning start.
As per Joe Bray of the Manchester Evening News, City have selected just two names from their Champions League squad ‘B List’ for the clash against Crvena zvezda, with first-team regulars Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb joining the matchday squad.
Subsequently, it is believed that there will be no call-ups from Manchester City’s academy, despite four names training with the first-team squad on Monday afternoon, including the likes of Josh Adam and Micah Hamilton.
Pep Guardiola and Red Star Belgrade boss Barak Bakhar are expected to confirm their respective starting line-ups at approximately 18:45 BST on Tuesday evening.
Now confirmed.
