Four Manchester City players nominated for Northwest Football Awards

Manchester City have received nominations in four categories for the 2023 Northwest Football Awards.

Players from both the Manchester City men’s and women’s team have been nominated for Northwest Football Awards, including Erling Haaland, who has been shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Season award.

The 23-year-old scored 52 goals in 53 appearances during his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, helping Manchester City to a famous treble and maiden UEFA Champions League trophy.

Haaland, who is also a hot favourite to win the 2023 Ballon d’Or, recently won the PFA Player of the Year award, FWA Footballer of the Year award and was named Premier League Player of the Season.

The Norwegian is one of four player nominated for the Northwest Football Awards’ Premier League Player of the Season; alongside Jordan Pickford, Alisson Becker and Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.

Haaland has enjoyed a similarly emphatic start to the new campaign, scoring six goals in six matches.

Manchester City’s Rico Lewis is also nominated for an award, following a breakthrough season with Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

The 18-year-old, who recently signed a new long-term contract, made 23 appearances for Manchester City during the 2022/23 campaign.

Lewis is one of 16 players nominated for The Athletic Rising Star award, with other nominees including Alejandro Garnacho and Curtis Jones.

Manchester City’s Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Esme Morgan are also nominated for Northwest Football Awards, with the ceremony an annual event which has celebrated the region’s football for over a decade.

Shaw is nominated for the Women’s Player of the Season award, meanwhile Morgan is a nominee in the Athletic Women’s Rising Star of the Season category.

The Jamaican striker scored 20 goals in 22 WSL appearances last season, surpassing the club record previously held by Nikita Parris.
