Bernardo Silva release clause details emerge following new Manchester City contract

Manchester City have agreed to including a release clause in the new contractual agreement reached with Bernardo Silva, according to a new report.
It was announced on Wednesday evening that the Portugal international had put pen to paper on a new one-year contract extension, keeping him with the Premier League champions until at least the summer of 2026.
Manchester City officials moved in determined fashion to reward the midfielder for his fine work during last season’s historic treble-winning campaign, with the understanding being that Bernardo Silva has moved more in-line with the squad’s highest earners.
However, new details emerging in light of the official confirmation this week have revealed the addition of a release clause in Bernardo Silva’s Manchester City deal, offering more uncertainty around his commitment to the Etihad Stadium.
According to a new report, Manchester City have agreed to include a £50 million release clause in Bernardo Silva’s new contract.
At this stage however, it remains unknown as to when such a clause could become active.
The 29-year-old has been eyeing up a move away from Manchester City for the last couple of summer transfer windows, often citing unhappiness with the lifestyle on offer in the north-west as a crucial reason behind his intentions.
Over that period, Silva has generated strong interest from FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and most recently Saudi Arabia – who showed real intent to sign the City midfielder as their new poster of the ambitious project in the Middle East.
Bernardo Silva however has committed to Pep Guardiola’s side for another season, and it remains unknown as to what his views are on his life in Manchester, or whether next summer will be seen as another opportunity to find a way through the Etihad exit door.
Speaking to ManCity.com upon signing his new deal with the Premier League champions, Bernardo Silva said, “I’ve had six incredible years at Manchester City and I’m delighted to extend my time here.
“Winning the Treble last season was extremely special and it’s exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion. Success makes you want even more, and this Club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning.
“I love the manager, my team-mates and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years.”
