Updated Manchester City contract expiry list following Bernardo Silva extension
Bernardo Silva has become the latest Manchester City player to agree new terms with the club, signing a fresh contract until 2026.
The midfielder is the third player to sign a new contract this summer alone, following renewed terms for both Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis at the Etihad Stadium as a reward for their stellar contributions in the club’s treble-winning season.
The 29-year-old’s extension also ends months of transfer speculation surrounding the Portugal international, after Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia all chased the signature of the Manchester City star.
Bernardo Silva has now signed a one-year extension until the summer of 2026 – the midfielder’s second contract extension at the Etihad Stadium since his move from AS Monaco in 2017.
The midfielder is a crucial member of Pep Guardiola’s squad, with the 29-year-old playing an integral role in the Blues’ maiden UEFA Champions League triumph last season – scoring two goals in the semi-final and registering an assist in the final.
Bernardo Silva missed Manchester City’s UEFA Super Cup win last Wednesday and was also absent for Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium, courtesy of Julian Alvarez’s 31st minute strike, due to illness.
The midfielder could however return for the Blues’ trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon, in what is Manchester City’s penultimate fixture before the international break.
