Pep Guardiola opens up on Manchester City transfer window potential as Crystal Palace plot sensational swoop for first-team star
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has offered his first comments on the club’s transfer window, and what could come in the weeks that remain.
Etihad Stadium officials have been somewhat quiet on the arrivals front, as they seemingly continue to seek clarity on the futures of a number of first-team stars who remain in a state of limbo over what could come next following their treble achievements last campaign.
One name who faces ongoing uncertainty is central defender Aymeric Laporte, while Manchester City continue to work on a deal for RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol as his possible replacement.
Rounding up every piece of information from day 38 and 39 of the ongoing summer transfer window, here is everything you need to know to remain up to date!

Manchester City have been told they will have to pay RB Leipzig’s full £87 million valuation to sign Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian is Pep Guardiola’s number one target, and the City boss is becoming frustrated by his club’s refusal to pay what it takes. (Simon Mullock, The Mirror)

Departures
Pep Guardiola on how the Manchester City squad will look by the end of the transfer window: “I think many things are going to happen. I can not answer. I want the best for my players. I spoke with Kyle (Walker) and everything was right. We will see what happens… (Joao Cancelo) is here. Joao has been so important for us in the past. After the loan at Bayern he is back here and is part of the group. Like I said to your colleagues, we will see what happens…”
Kyle Walker is expected to cost Bayern Munich £13 million, if an agreement can be reached with Manchester City. Face to face talks between the two are expected mid-week in Japan. The two-year plus an additional year contract offer from Bayern trumps City’s offer. (Rob Dorsett, Sky Sports)
Barcelona ‘love’ Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo, however at the moment they cannot move for this kind of deal. As such, other clubs still have chances to enter the race but this has not happened either as of now. (Fabrizio Romano)
Stade de Reims have signed Josh Wilson-Esbrand on a season-long loan from Manchester City. (Official)
Crystal Palace are considering a move for Aymeric Laporte. Manchester City want £35 million, however Palace are reluctant to meet the asking price and prefer to wait to launch a formal bid later in the window. (Harry Pratt, Daily Star)
Manchester City will keep James McAtee until the future of Bernardo Silva is settled, putting off inquiries to take him on loan due to fears that the Portuguese international will be tempted away. Sheffield United are among clubs keen to take McAtee on loan. (Alan Nixon)
Tommy Doyle is wanted by Wolves but has told friends he wants to be sure he has a chance of starting. The Manchester City midfielder would love a return to Sheffield United but they do not have the cash to buy him, and ideally want James McAtee on loan instead. (Alan Nixon)
Manchester United have agreed a fee of around £1.25 million to sign Darren Fletcher’s 16-year-old twin sons Jack and Tyler Fletcher from Manchester City. (James Ducker, The Telegraph)
