From Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City reach agreement to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig
Manchester City and RB Leipzig have now reached an agreement on a fee for the transfer of centre-back Josko Gvardiol, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 21-year-old defender is set to become the second Croatian international to sign for Manchester City this summer, following Mateo Kovacic’s £25 million move from Chelsea last month.
Gvardiol, who signed for RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb as a teenager three years ago, made 30 Bundesliga appearances last season and impressed at the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar, attracting significant attention from across Europe.
The defender played against Manchester City in the Champions League last-16 during the 2022/23 campaign, and scored the equalising goal against the Sky Blues in the first-leg at the Red Bull Arena.
Josko Gvardiol agreed personal terms with Manchester City in June and now finally looks on course to swap east Germany for east Manchester, after the two clubs reached and agreement regarding a transfer fee.
According to the information of Fabrizio Romano, Joško Gvardiol to Manchester City has now reached the ‘here we go’ stage, after an agreement was reached on a transfer fee between the Premier League champions and RB Leipzig.
It is further revealed that Gvardiol completed the first part of his Manchester City medical tests on Wednesday, with the second section expected to come on Thursday, should all go to plan with regards to the deal.
The Croatian international will become the third major exit from the Bundesliga club this summer, following the departures of Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai.
The versatile defender has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League champions throughout the summer, and Pep Guardiola looks to have finally secured his second signing of transfer window.
Gvardiol could make his Premier League debut for Manchester City against Burnley next month, with the Blues kicking off their title defence at Turf Moor against Vincent Kompany’s newly promoted side.
The 21-year-olds competitive debut could come even earlier however, with City facing Arsenal in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 6th August 2023.
