Al-Ahli to make offer to Manchester City for five-time Premier League winner
Manchester City could imminently receive an offer for Riyad Mahrez from Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli.
The 32 year-old, who is contracted to the Etihad Stadium until 2025, is the latest European football star to be heavily linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League this summer.
Mahrez is one of three Manchester City players to be subject to heavy transfer interest from the Middle Eastern league, with Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo also on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs.
Ilkay Gundogan, who signed for Barcelona on a free transfer last month after leaving Manchester City, also turned down a major offer from Saudi Arabia.
Mahrez however continues to be strongly linked with a possible move to Saudi Arabia, with the Algerian having not featured in either the Champions League Final or FA Cup Final last month.
The winger played in the final three Premier League matches of the campaign for City, and also scored a hat-trick in the FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium in April.
Since joining Manchester City from Leicester City in 2018, the 32 year-old has won 11 trophies and made over 230 appearances.
Mahrez has scored 78 goals for the Sky Blues and famously netted three goals against Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League semi-final tie in 2021.
Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are pushing to sign the Blues’ forward and plan to make an offer to Manchester City this week, according to Ben Jacobs.
The Middle Eastern outfit view the next few days as decisive, having entered talks with the 32 year-old in June.
Manchester City return for pre-season training on Monday, before flying to Japan on Wednesday for two friendlies against Yokohama F. Marinos and Bayern Munich.
Pep Guardiola’s side are then due to travel to South Korea to play Atletico Madrid, with Mahrez currently expected to be on the pre-season tour of East Asia.
Ah-Ahli, who are pushing to sign Mahrez, have already successfully signed both Edouard Mendy and Roberto Firmino from the Premier League this summer.
Manchester City are set to demand a transfer fee for the 32 year-old, with Mahrez having penned a new two-year deal at the Etihad Stadium just 12 months ago.
