Confirmed Line-Ups: Manchester City vs Aston Villa (Premier League)
Pep Guardiola will take charge of a Manchester City game for the final time against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The 55-year-old is bringing the curtain down on an illustrious decade at the Etihad Stadium this summer, having led the Blues to the Carabao Cup and FA Cup double in his final season.
Guardiola was under contract at the Etihad Stadium till 2027 but decided against seeing out the final year of his deal, admitting in a press conference on Friday that he is running out of energy and thinks the club needs new ideas.
City finally gave in to Arsenal in the title race in midweek as Mikel Arteta and co were crowned Premier League champions after Guardiola’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth.
As Enzo Maresca prepares to succeed Guardiola as manager, City have commissioned a statue to commemorate the Catalan’s illustrious decade at the Etihad Stadium and renamed their home ground’s North Stand as ‘The Pep Guardiola Stand’.
Guardiola will depart as Manchester City manager after Sunday but take up a Global Ambassador role within the City Football Group as City’s owners seek the Catalan’s expertise in their world-wide setup.
Sunday’s fixture will mark final games in sky blue for Bernardo Silva and John Stones, the pair of whom are leaving Manchester City on free transfers in June.
