Borussia Dortmund look towards Manchester City for new attacking reinforcement
Manchester City could face negotiations with Borussia Dortmund once again this summer, with the Bundesliga club showing an interest in Cole Palmer.
The 21-year-old has endured a somewhat challenging campaign on the game-time front at Manchester City, in a season that many believed would be his true breakthrough moment working under Pep Guardiola.
A mixture of injuries and strong form among his City teammates have significantly held back the youngster, and as the Etihad club now look towards the new season, it appears as though they are ready to enable Palmer to leave the club on loan.
Cole Palmer is understood to be replaced internally by Manchester City coaching staff, with the likes of Carlos Borges and Oscar Bobb favourites to take up Palmer’s position in the first-team squad.
Elsewhere, it is also expected that James McAtee will return to the club this summer and play a role in Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, following a successful season on-loan at promoted Sheffield United in the Championship.
For now, it remains unknown as to whether Palmer could return to Manchester City for the 2024/25 season, with a new report suggesting that German giants Borussia Dortmund would be keen to explore both a loan or permanent move.
That is according to the information of German newspaper BILD, as translated and relayed by BVB Newsblog, who report that Dortmund are interested in Cole Palmer this summer, and not for the first time either.
The report claims that the England under-21 international was already on the wish list of the Bundesliga giants last season, although this summer their chances of securing the signing of the versatile City forward are ‘better’.
It is suggested that Pep Guardiola personally blocked any move for Palmer last summer, but the player himself now wants to make the next step and is ready to leave the Etihad Stadium in order to switch to the Bundesliga.
In terms of incomings at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City are expected to welcome Croatia international Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea in the coming days, having reached an agreement with the London club over a £30 million package for the midfielder.
The 29-year-old may be joined by another addition in the centre of the park, with the understanding being that Manchester City will lodge a formal bid for West Ham United captain Declan Rice, which could reach up to £100 million.
