Manchester City are remaining firm on their stance not to negotiate a permanent exit for Cole Palmer this summer, although are accepting of a loan deal.

The England youth international has endured a relatively challenging campaign at the Etihad Stadium, in a season that many believed would be his real breakthrough campaign after first emerging on the scene in the 2021/22 season.

While the likes of James McAtee, Callum Doyle, and Tommy Doyle headed out on loan deals to the Championship, Manchester City made the decision to retain Palmer on the proviso that he would take on increased responsibility and minutes in the first-team squad.

However, following a mixture of injury problems and a lack of form, Cole Palmer struggled to have the impact that many believed he would do, and now the club are hoping to reignite his career and future through a top-level loan deal for next season.

Palmer is certainly not short of options, after a number of high-level European clubs maintained their monitoring of the player throughout the last two seasons, including several suitors from the Bundesliga.

According to a new update from the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski, while Manchester City are planning to be without Cole Palmer next season, the treble winners are not willing to consider a permanent sale of the highly-rated forward.

It is explained that Manchester City intend for Palmer to spend next season out on loan, amid interest from various top clubs, where he can get regular first-team minutes at a ‘high level’ and ‘regain confidence and form’.

Such is Manchester City’s insistence on not selling one of their primary academy graduates that transfer chiefs have reportedly not given any price to other parties, whether as part of a loan deal or otherwise this summer.

While Palmer may be heading through the exit door at the Etihad Stadium this summer, albeit on a temporary basis, the expectation in various quarters is that Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff will be welcoming back James McAtee next season.

The England youth international excelled during his loan spell with Sheffield United in the Championship, and played a crucial role in helping the Blades make a return to the Premier League for the forthcoming season with a second-placed finish.

City also have other futures to deal with in the coming weeks and months, with the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, James Trafford, Callum Doyle, and Tommy Doyle all seeking clarity as to where their future lies for the 2023/24 campaign.
