Man City still waiting on Palace fixture confirmation
With the 2025/26 Premier League campaign slowly edging towards a close, it is almost time for Manchester City fans to reflect on the year the first team squad has had, and look forward to what next term may bring to the Etihad Stadium – but first it would be nice to finally get the Crystal Palace game out of the way.
There are a number of questions outstanding for fans – namely the Premier League’s eventual decision on their never-ending saga to actually look like they have a set of teeth, what kind of summer rebuild the club will see after Pep Guardiola began his overhaul last term, and the immediate future of the manager himself.
There are a few weeks left yet before those questions will take over as fans enjoy their off season and potentially investigate online casino gaming options such as rocketplay32 com, but that still leaves plenty of issues to address right now.
Having just lifted the League Cup with victory over Arsenal at Wembley to add another piece of silverware to Guardiola’s managerial record, the club are more than in the chase for the top-flight trophy once again. There are potentially only a few points in it and three valuable points in that calculation will be March’s postponed hosting of Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace team.
As fans will be aware, there is a nine-point gap to top spot and Mikel Arteta’s team, but City hold the all-important game in hand on them as the original Palace clash set for March 21 was postponed with the Cup taking priority.
Despite it being known for weeks that the fixture could not take place, fans of both sides are waiting to hear from the Premier League so that they can set a new date in their calendars.
It is all a bit of a mess really.
Whilst the clash with the Eagles remains outstanding, Arsenal have already fulfilled their postponed game with Wolverhampton Wanderers from the Cup weekend as that was brought forward to February. Crystal Palace’s ongoing Europa Conference League calendar is an added complication, so there are really only three potentially viable, and sensible, options.
Allowing Palace the possibility of reaching the final four of the tournament, the midweek fixture slots of April 22, May 13 and May 20 become obvious – and you would think that the April date was the most likely, yet there continues to be radio silence from the authorities.
That in itself is not straight forward though, as it depends on the FA Cup quarter final tie between City and Palace. Should Liverpool progress, it would require their league game against Arne Slot’s side to be postponed so the semi final dates could be honoured – and Palace would then need to reschedule two matches between now and the end of the summer.
Should Manchester City’s plans for another Cup win look likely, that would see three games potentially switched, and even though European fixtures would be free, the Premier League is likely to not want to clash if they can avoid it.
If Crystal Palace is set for April, that would leave May’s dates free for possible Burnley and Bournemouth complications.
But right now, fans of all sides would probably just like some kind of communication that gave them a ball park idea of what may eventually happen.
