Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City assistant targeted by League One club for managerial vacancy
Manchester City are once again seeing staff members targeted for vacancies elsewhere, with assistant coach Enzo Maresca the latest to be linked with a move elsewhere.
The latest development comes just days after City secured their third Premier League title in a row, beating away competition from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal this season with three games to spare.
However, with such high-levels of success comes attention from elsewhere in the football world, and the latest report suggests that Blackpool – who have recently succumbed to relegation into League Two – are eyeing up a member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff.
The Seasiders are on the search for a new permanent manager, and with a view towards employing a young coach with top-level ability, their hunt has now taken them to the Etihad Stadium.
That is according to the information of Alan Nixon, who reports that Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach Enzo Maresca is the new name on Blackpool’s managerial short list.
Should the Italian coach complete a switch to the north-west coastline, then it may give The Tangerines an advantage when it comes to securing loan deals from Manchester City’s highly-rated academy system.
City’s under-18 squad and their Elite Development Squad both retained their Premier League titles this season for the third consecutive campaign – further emphasising the talent within the groups in Manchester.
The likes of Oscar Bobb, Adedire Mebude, and Carlos Borges are all likely to be hungry for senior first-team action next season, but it remains to be seen whether Manchester City would deem Blackpool as an appropriate destination for their development, regardless of a possible connection with Enzo Maresca.
