A new record on the cards – Stat Preview: Manchester City vs Chelsea (Premier League)
Manchester City return to Premier League action this weekend following an emphatic 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid, as Chelsea visit the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
City are set to lock horns with Frank Lampard’s squad in a match that is likely to be overshadowed by the Premier League trophy celebrations that are scheduled to take place after the contest.
Coming into match full confidence, Manchester City gained yet more momentum after putting in a performance of top quality to demolish Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium (5-1 on aggregate) in the Champions League semi-final second-leg in midweek.
Goals from Manuel Akanji, Julián Álvarez and a 14-minute quick-fire double by Bernardo Silva was enough to overcome Carlo Ancelotti’s team and secure their place in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul on 10th June, where Inter await.
In direct contrast, Chelsea have suffered a torrid time this campaign. The London side have struggled to score goals and currently lie in 12th place, having performed well under expectation for most of the season.
Despite the poor results, the individual quality within the West London side is still prevalent with the likes of João Félix, Thiago Silva and former Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling – who returns to his old stomping ground having left in the summer.
