Manchester City begin legal challenges AGAINST the Premier League following recent barrage of charges
Manchester City have launched legal challenges against the Premier League’s charges for alleged financial breaches, including an objection to the involvement of the barrister because of his allegiances to Arsenal.
The Blues were slapped with a swathe of charges for the alleged financial breaches by the Premier League in February, with the club robustly denying the allegations which could lead to expulsion from the top-flight, if proven.
Manchester City were hit with 115 charges relating to to financial information, profitability and sustainability, player and manager remuneration, failure to cooperate and UEFA regulations, between an extended period of 2009 to 2018.
The charges by the Premier League have now been referred to an independent commission, with the potential for the case to take between two and four years to be resolved, according to the legal experts.
A timeline for a resolution could be further impacted by a new development, as Manchester City have reportedly begun legal proceedings against the Premier League, challenging a series of processes.
The Daily Mail report that Manchester City have raised the issue of Murray Rosen KC, head of the Premier League’s independent judicial panel, openly supporting Arsenal, a team who are currently in a title race with the Sky Blues.
Murray Rosen KC’s online biography reads: “He has participated in sport all his life, is a member of the MCC and Arsenal FC, and still regularly plays real tennis and ping pong.”
The Mail also report that Etihad Stadium chiefs have questioned whether recent changes to Premier League rules should apply to the investigation for alleged breaches which occurred at an earlier date.
Manchester City are currently bidding to complete the treble, with the opportunity to win a seventh Premier League title this weekend with a victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side also reached a second Champions League Final in midweek, emphatically beating Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium to set up a clash with Inter Milan in Istanbul next month.
Manchester City have strongly denied allegations of alleged financial breaches and said in a statement in February: “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.
“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
