UEFA have issued fines to both Manchester City and Bayern Munich following incidents that occurred during their Champions League quarter-final meeting last month.

The Premier League and Bundesliga giants clashed across two-legs in the last-eight of Europe’s premier competition, with the first of the two ties taking place at City’s Etihad Stadium and the hosts recording an emphatic 3-0 victory.

Goals from Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Erling Haaland secured the ultimate advantage for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City heading into the second-leg tie at the Allianz Arena in Munich a fortnight later.

The second-leg was a more closely-fought contest, as Thomas Tuchel’s side looked to recover the deficit, however it was Erling Haaland who struck first to make it 4-0 on aggregate, before a late Joshua Kimmich penalty reduced the scoreline in what was a consolation goal at best.

However, the contests at both the Etihad Stadium and Allianz Arena were marred by incidents concerning both sets of supporters, as UEFA conclude their findings and issue the two clubs with four-figure fines this week.

Manchester City have been fined €5,250 for the ‘lighting of fireworks’ and ‘throwing of objects’ during the first-leg contest at the Etihad Stadium, with Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer spotted removing a blue flare from the field of play following the opening goal.

As for Bayern Munich, the Bavarian club have received a heftier fine, with UEFA issuing an €8,250 sanction for the ‘throwing of objects’ – presumably in the direction of City striker Erling Haaland following his second-half strike.

In addition to the monetary sanction, Bayern Munich were also handed a warning from UEFA due to ‘improper conduct of the team’ during that second-leg meeting with Manchester City.

City progressed through to the last-four of the Champions League following that meeting, where they met Real Madrid in the first-leg of the semi-final contest with a 1-1 scoreline being carried on over to the second-leg in Manchester next week.

The prize for the winner of the tie across two-legs will be a place in the Champions League final – which is due to be held in Istanbul. Italy are guaranteed to be represented, with Inter holding a 0-2 lead over city rivals Milan from their first-leg meeting at the San Siro.
