Pep Guardiola fumes at Premier League fixture schedule as Eurovision forces change
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed his frustration with the Premier League fixture schedule, as City continue their treble hunt away to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Goodison Park on Sunday, with the crunch Premier League clash coming either side of a momentous UEFA Champions League semi-final against current holders Real Madrid.
Manchester City will take a 1-1 draw into Wednesday’s second-leg tie at the Etihad Stadium, after Kevin De Bruyne’s rocketing drive cancelled out Vinicius Jr’s opening goal for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
As well as competing to reach next months Champions League Final, the Sky Blues remain in pursuit of a third successive Premier League title, with City needing three wins from their final four matches to retain their crown.
Arsenal remain just one point behind Manchester City, though City have the opportunity to extend that gap to four points against Everton this weekend.
City face Everton, who are currently fighting for Premier League survival, just three days before Wednesday’s crucial meeting against Real Madrid in East Manchester.
The city of Liverpool playing host to the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final on Saturday has forced the Blues’ match against the Toffees to be played on the Sunday, with Guardiola notably frustrated by the Premier League’s fixture scheduling.
“I can’t understand it but I’m not going to fight it anymore,” said the Catalan.
“I don’t understand it but we have to adapt. The schedules, it is what it is. It’s not frustrating it is what it is, how many times can I comment on that?
“I’m sure the Premier League want to help teams, they don’t want to make us uncomfortable, the problem is the schedule, this amount of competitions, this amount of games.
“I think we cannot play on Saturday because there is Eurovision and we do not have enough bodies or the capability to handle so many people (in Liverpool).”
