One talent to have emerged from Liverpool’s academy system has now penned an agreement with Manchester City to continue his development at the Etihad Stadium.

The capture of another high-potential teenager reinforces City’s strategy of recruiting the most promising youth talents from across England’s elite academies. Over recent seasons, the club have targeted players capable of long-term first-team progression, and the acquisition of Kaylum Moss fits a pattern previously seen with several high-profile moves at youth level.

Moss’ departure from Liverpool had been anticipated for several months, with early signs emerging during the summer of a possible switch. As City reshaped their academy structure under Thomas Krucken – including reinforcement in multiple age groups – the midfielder quickly became one of the club’s priority additions.

This latest move follows a wider trend of Manchester City outmanoeuvring rival Premier League academies for elite young talent. Back in June, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano revealed City were closing in on Moss, with negotiations progressing.

The midfielder had been widely regarded as one of the standout performers of his age group in Kirkby, prompting significant attention from recruitment departments across the country.

Taking to Instagram to announce his move to the City Football Academy, Kaylum Moss posed for photographs within Manchester City’s training facility alongside the club’s Academy director, Thomas Krucken.

The Liverpool Under-15 midfielder had been regarded as one of the best players of his generation within the Anfield set-up, and had spent 10 years at the club’s academy, with his move to City now passing through FA clearance.

Manchester City’s youth recruitment team are expected to integrate Moss into a development plan tailored to accelerate his progression, much like the approach taken with other recent arrivals from top Premier League academies.

With Pep Guardiola’s first-team stacked with young midfield talent – and with the likes of Nico O’Reilly and Divine Mukasa progressing rapidly – Moss will be stepping into a system designed to offer both stability and clear pathway opportunities.

Looking ahead, Moss will likely feature prominently in City’s Under-16 and Under-18 squads across the next 18 months, depending on the speed of his adaptation. The club have a track record of fast-tracking standout performers, and early expectations around Moss suggest he may be treated as a long-term project with elite potential.
