Savinho has named two Manchester City teammates as symbols of excellence after signing a new deal that will keep him at the club till the end of the 2030-31 season.

The 21-year-old attracted interest from Tottenham in the recent transfer window amid doubts over his long-term prospects under Pep Guardiola, who is navigating a period of transition at the Etihad Stadium after a rebuild of the squad this summer.

Manchester City’s newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana made wholesale changes to an ageing squad over the summer, with big-name stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker moved on and the likes of Ederson and Ilkay Gundogan sold.

City recruited seven new players in a major change of guard as Guardiola looks to lead his side back to the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles off the back of an underwhelming 2024-25 season by all accounts.

Savinho is the latest Manchester City to put pen to paper and commit his future to the Etihad Stadium in recent months, following in the footsteps of Ruben Dias, Rico Lewis and Nico O’Reilly. City also plan to table contract renewal talks with Phil Foden and Ballon d’Or winning midfielder Rodri as the season progresses.

Having made a worrying start to the 2025-26 campaign, Manchester City have turned a corner after the international break and take on Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium in west London on Sunday evening after being held to a 2-2 draw away at AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League this week.

The sharing of spoils on the French Riviera saw Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva return to his former club, with Erling Haaland maintaining his red-hot scoring streak with his 10th and 11th goals of the season at Stade Louis II.

Upon signing a new Manchester City contract, Savinho has heaped praise on City teammates Haaland and Silva as he looks to build on an encouraging debut season in England and establish himself as a first-team regular in the years to follow.

“I like everyone in the squad. But two I admire are Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland,” Savinho said in an interview with Manchester City’s official channels. “With Haaland, it’s about the goals. I think, ‘How can he score so many goals with such ease?’

“And Bernardo (Silva) for his history, for everything he’s already done at the club. He helps me a lot and pushes me too, tries to help me improve my goals – how to shoot, how to get in the box. And for his history here at Manchester City. Since I arrived, he’s always helped and supported me.

“I think today you have to be happy to play football, inspire the fans to come and watch at the stadium and leave satisfied. My game is about attacking, going at the opponent. I think I have to improve a lot in finishing and score more, and I will achieve that.

“The style of play helps me a lot too, always with the ball, and City has great players I play alongside here, which has always been my dream. I think I’m living my dream now.”

After coming off the bench in the midweek draw against AS Monaco, Savinho is in line to feature in Manchester City’s Premier League trip to Brentford as the Blues look to build on their 5-1 beating of Burnley last weekend.
