Manchester City prepare deadline day medical for blockbuster signing
Officials at Manchester City are now preparing a medical for a deadline day signing with just hours remaining in the summer transfer market, it has been revealed.
The Premier League giants have been locked in discussions over their goalkeeping department for several weeks, with the long-term future of Ederson at the centre of the story amid interest from Turkey in particular.
The Brazilian international has been strongly linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer, with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce most credited with interest, and the latter currently most advanced in their pursuit.
With uncertainty surrounding Pep Guardiola’s long-standing number one, City have been actively exploring replacements at the top level of European football with Gianluigi Donnarumma quickly emerging as the leading candidate.
Negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain have been somewhat complicated, despite the French club wanting the player to leave having secured a replacement in Lucas Chevalier, with discussions over transfer fees and wage structures dominating talks.
Manchester City have remained firm in their stance not to shatter their internal salary hierarchy, leaving PSG in a position where they may have to subsidise parts of Donnarumma’s current contract to help facilitate a move.
However, according to the information of journalist Fabrizio Romano, officials at Manchester City are already preparing to schedule a medical for Gianluigi Donnarumma on Monday to complete the signing of the Italy international goalkeeper.
Should Donnarumma complete his move before the close of the transfer window, he would represent one of the standout signings of the summer market.
A Euro 2020 winner with Italy and a UEFA Champions League winner with PSG, the 26-year-old arrives with extensive experience despite his relatively young age. His potential addition would provide City with a seamless transition in goal should Ederson leave in terms of top-level success.
Attention will remain on Ederson’s situation and whether a transfer away from Manchester is finalised in good time. The Brazilian has been central to City’s dominance in recent years, but with his contract set to expire in 2026, both the club and player may view this as the right moment for a new challenge.
If the Donnarumma deal is pushed over the line in time, it could signal the end of an era at the Etihad Stadium. City fans will be watching closely over the final hours of deadline day, with the prospect of a high-profile change between the posts adding late drama to an already busy summer window.
