The latest on Erling Haaland, Che Adams, and Phil Foden ahead of Southampton vs Manchester City (Premier League)
Manchester City take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday evening as they look to retain hopes of winning a third successive Premier League crown.
With Arsenal holding an eight-point lead heading into the weekend’s matches, albeit with City having a game in hand on the Gunners, anything other than three points on the south coast could have huge implications on the direction of the top-flight title this season.
Manchester City are in a rich vein of form however, putting together the type of winning run in recent weeks that has gone on to be decisive in previous Premier League title races, with last weekend’s victory over Liverpool proving just how good they are at present.
City put four goals past Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime, as Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Jack Grealish made up for the absence of Erling Haaland – who was ruled out of the contest through injury.
The Norwegian is expected to make some sort of return this time out, with Pep Guardiola offering a positive update on the fitness of his star striker ahead of the clash against Southampton.
Here is all the very latest team news and injury updates ahead of Southampton vs Manchester City on Saturday evening!
Southampton
Mohammed Salisu and Che Adams – both of whom have been ruled out in recent weeks through respective injuries – are still unavailable for Southampton ahead of the visit of the Premier League champions.
Armel Bella-Kotchap is also likely to remain sidelined for this weekend’s contest due to a shoulder injury, while Tino Livramento is also unlikely to play any part in the contest despite making good progress in his own road to recovery.
Providing a comprehensive update on the fitness of his squad, Southampton manager Ruben Selles explained in his pre-match press conference, “Unfortunately, (Mohammed) Salisu and Che (Adams) will not make it for this game. After their situation in the last week, they have not been able to join us on the training ground.
“Armel (Bella-Kotchap) is still a question mark for us. And Tino (Livramento) is doing great in training but he is still not ready to compete after one year out of football. Juan (Larios) is out for the season with a long-term injury so that’s the news.”
Manchester City
Erling Haaland is now ready to make his return to Manchester City action, having missed last weekend’s clash against Liverpool due to a lack of fitness following a groin problem sustained in the FA Cup quarter-final victory over Burnley.
On the subject of the Norway international, Pep Guardiola told the press on Friday afternoon, “He trained the last two days really good, he will be ready.”
