Ilkay Gundogan’s agent issues clear update on transfer future of Manchester City star
The agent of Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has issued a clear update on the future of the German star amid links to Turkey throughout the summer.
City’s midfield has seen a number of changes and developments this summer, with various players attracting transfer interest. Gundogan, an experienced and influential figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad, has been subjected to Turkish giants Galatasaray in reports.
However, as the summer transfer window progresses and the new Premier League season looms beginning for City on Saturday 16 August, the midfielder’s future remains firmly tied to the Etihad Stadium for now.
The 34-year-old has played a key role in Manchester City’s recent campaigns, contributing experience and tactical versatility to the squad. Despite his advancing age, Gundogan’s technical ability and leadership on the pitch have ensured he remains a valuable asset.
With the Premier League’s increasing physical demands and City’s ambitions to reclaim the title from Liverpool, retaining experienced players like Gundogan could be important in the eyes of Pep Guardiola.
However, the allure of moves to other leagues, particularly those offering lucrative contracts, often fuels speculation. Turkey’s Süper Lig has become a hotspot for attracting veteran stars in recent years, with clubs like Galatasaray eager to add quality and experience to their ranks.
Although, in new comments covered by Turkish media outlet Haber Sarikirmizi – as translated and relayed by Sport Witness – the agent and uncle of the City midfielder Ilhan Gündoğan issued a firm update to Turkish football presenter Emek Ege regarding Galatasaray’s interest.
“At the moment, there is no agreement with any club in Turkey or any official talks going on,” the midfielder’s representative made clear.
He continued, “I find it difficult to understand why such news is coming out.”
The agent’s comments effectively put to rest any immediate talk of a summer exit for Gundogan, at least to Turkey. While transfer windows are fluid and situations can evolve rapidly, this update suggests the midfielder’s focus remains on Manchester City.
Looking ahead, Gundogan’s role in the squad may be subject to adjustment as City seek to balance youth and experience in their midfield. With new players making an impact, the competition for places is fierce. Gundogan’s leadership and adaptability could still prove valuable to Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Speculation about Gundogan’s future may continue, given the ever-changing nature of transfers. However, for now, some City fans can take comfort from the fact that one of their seasoned midfielders appears settled and committed to the club’s ongoing ambitions.
