Manchester City are leading the race to sign Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, however face competition from Juventus, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich for the teenagers signature.

City are one of four clubs interested in signing the Italian defender, with the potential for Pep Guardiola’s side to be in the market for a new centre-back given the growing uncertainty surrounding the future of Aymeric Laporte.

Laporte has made just 16 appearances for Manchester City so far this season and has been linked with a possible move away from the Etihad Stadium at the end of the campaign, amid rife competition between the Spain international, John Stones, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji for a place in central defence.

The 28 year-old has been subject to interest from clubs across Italy and Spain, with the defenders former Athletic Bilbao one of several possible suitors for the centre-back.

City have been linked with RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol ahead of the summer transfer window, however a report from Italy claims that the Sky Blues are ‘in the lead’ for teenager Giorgio Scalvini.

The 19 year-old defender, who is also wanted by Juventus, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich, has a €40 million price tag according to a report by TuttoSport, which has been relayed by Sport Witness.

The teenager is ‘unlikely’ to remain at Atalanta, where Scalvini has made 23 appearances this season across the Serie A and Coppa Italia.

The Italian has risen through the Atalanta academy and made his first-team debut for the club in October 2021.

Scalvini was an unused substitute during Italy’s recent 2-1 loss to England, though started in a 2-0 win over Malta on Sunday for Roberto Mancini’s team.
