Gallery: Behind-the-scenes on Rayan Cherki Manchester City signing day
Manchester City have secured the services of Rayan Cherki to complete a significant bulk of their summer transfer business in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Frenchman is widely viewed as being the natural successor to Kevin De Bruyne, after the Belgian international left the club on a free transfer this week to join Serie A champions Napoli following the expiry of his City contract.
As Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain plot the next phase of the Manchester City squad following a difficult season across competitions, the decision was taken not to renew the 33-year-old’s agreement and begin a new phase after 10 years with the legendary playmaker.
Manchester City withdrew transfer interest in the incoming Liverpool star Florian Wirtz owing to the £300 million package it would have taken to secure the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, switching attentions to Rayan Cherki of Lyon just days later.
Finalising personal terms with the France international swiftly, a deal would be concluded with Lyon shortly afterwards despite some back and forth involving the clubs, eventually shaking hands on an initial £30.5 million deal.
Upon completing a medical test and finalising various media duties with the club at the City Football Academy, Cherki is now fully-integrated into Pep Guardiola’s squad out on the United States ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
But before the start of the tournament, here is a behind-the-scenes look at the 21-year-old’s first day as a Manchester City player!
