Revealed: The 10 matches Phil Foden could miss for Manchester City following appendicitis surgery
Phil Foden could miss up to TEN matches for Manchester City across all competitions, after undergoing surgery on acute appendicitis in London this weekend.
Manchester City confirmed in an official club statement on Sunday afternoon that the 22 year-old forward had left Gareth Southgate’s England camp over the weekend, after undergoing surgery in London for acute appendicitis.
It has also been confirmed that Phil Foden will now return to Manchester in order to begin his rehabilitation process following the operation, with a view to becoming available for Pep Guardiola’s side as soon as possible.
However, as part of the club’s release, it was also made official that he will not be available for the Premier League champions’ next top-flight outing, as they host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium next weekend.
Official guidance states that individuals “should be able to return to normal activities in a couple of weeks”, although it is also stated that Foden “may need to avoid more strenuous activities for 4 to 6 weeks after open surgery”. This is discussed between patient and surgeon.
With it remaining unclear at this stage how long Phil Foden will be ruled out for, here is a complete breakdown of all the fixtures he could miss depending on various recovery timeframes.
Should Phil Foden recover after two weeks of rehabilitation, then he would miss the following two matches.
- Liverpool (H), Premier League
- Southampton (A), Premier League
Should Phil Foden recover after four weeks of rehabilitation, then he would then also miss the following four matches, in addition to the aforementioned pairing.
- Bayern Munich (H), UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final First-Leg
- Leicester City (H), Premier League
- Bayern Munich (A), UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final Second-Leg
- Sheffield United (N), FA Cup Semi-Final
Should Phil Foden require the maximum period of time, as per NHS guidance, then he would miss a further four matches in addition to the aforementioned six games across all competitions.
- Arsenal (H), Premier League
- Fulham (A), Premier League
- West Ham (H), Premier League
- Leeds United (H), Premier League
Manager Pep Guardiola is expected to provide a further update on Phil Foden’s recovery timeframe, when the Manchester City boss addresses the media on Friday afternoon ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool.
