Officials at Manchester City are prepared to sit down and discuss a new contract with Erling Haaland following his sensational start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

The 22 year-old striker has registered a total of 37 appearances for the club across all competitions so far this season, scoring a staggering 42 goals in the process, accompanied by a further five assists.

That takes him up to 47 goal contributions for the season upon breaking up for the March international break, which is nearly double the second-most achieved by any other Manchester City player, with Kevin De Bruyne totalling 25 himself.

This week alone, Erling Haaland has scored a total of eight goals across just two matches, with a five-goal haul against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League followed up by a consecutive hat-trick during the 6-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Burnley.

Now, Manchester City are keen to show their appreciation for Erling Haaland’s outrageous output so far this season, by offering to sit down with the player and his representatives to negotiate new and improved terms, while also extending his contract further.

That is according to a new report from Graeme Bailey this week, who states that Manchester City are prepared to sit down and discuss a new and improved contract with Erling Haaland following his sensational season so far under Pep Guardiola.

It is highlighted that this feeling within the club comes despite there being no concerns over Haaland’s future, having penned a five-year contract last summer upon joining City from Borussia Dortmund.

However, Manchester City are keen to secure re-negotiated terms with Team Haaland for two reasons; rewarding the player for his goalscoring form, and remove a release clause that would allow him to leave the club for a set fee in the coming seasons.

It is of course clarified that whether or not there is any interest in Erling Haaland or his representatives signing a new deal is another matter, especially given how fresh he is into his recently signed deal at the club.

Last week, a claim from GOAL stated that Erling Haaland’s release clause had already become void and deactivated, automatically through Pep Guardiola committing two more years to the football club in the winter.

It was suggested that if Manchester City’s manager stayed beyond the end of the ongoing season, then the release clause in Haaland’s contract would be ‘deactivated and completely cancelled’.

Haaland and City agreed that if Guardiola left in 2023, then the striker would stay one more year with another coach and have a release clause in 2024. As a result of the Catalan boss signing a new deal, the Norway international’s release clause reportedly no longer exists.
