Manchester City have confirmed the eligibility of on-loan full-back Joao Cancelo for Bayern Munich, following the Champions League quarter-final draw on Friday.

Pep Guardiola’s side will take on the Bundesliga giants in the last-eight of the competition, after dismantling RB Leipzig in the last round via an 8-1 aggregate scoreline and a 7-0 second-leg victory.

The demolition job at the Etihad Stadium came after Marco Rose’s side impressively secured a 1-1 draw at home in the first-leg, giving them huge hope going into the second-half of the tie the following month.

However, a historic five-goal haul from Erling Haaland, accompanied by fine strikes from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne booked City’s place in the next round of the competition in style – issuing a statement of intent to their Champions League competitors.

Those competitors now include Bayern Munich, after Manchester City were drawn against Julian Nagelsmann’s Bundesliga squad, featuring former Etihad forward Leroy Sane and now on-loan full-back Joao Cancelo.

But can the Portuguese international feature for the German giants against his parent club?

Manchester City have now confirmed in light of the draw that Joao Cancelo will be eligible to feature for Bayern Munich across the two-legged tie, with no agreement placed in the loan deal that would prevent him from playing in the contest.

Cancelo has had a mixed start to life at the Allianz Arena, as he continues to adapt to a new system and style of playing, while his manager, coaches, and teammates get used to his skillset and talents in a different formation.

Nevertheless, Joao Cancelo’s goal contribution output has been impressive, with four assist and a goal to his name across his eight appearances so far in all competitions for Bayern Munich.

Manchester City will take on Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie on 11/12th April, before travelling to Germany for the second-leg on 18/19th April.
